The Klein Independent School District’s mission is to prepare students to be “future ready” and provide engaging learning experiences and resources in a safe and nurturing environment. Encompassing 87.5 square miles in northwestern Harris County, Texas, the Klein ISD’s southern edge is adjacent to the corporate limits of Houston nestling the district as a suburb of the fourth largest U.S. city.
Approximately 231,000 persons reside within the school district boundary, which was initially settled in 1849 by German immigrants. Most schools are named after the early settlers and the Klein, Texas Historical Foundation maintains a farm/museum to assist in the preservation of the Klein community.
The Klein ISD is comprised of four high schools, nine intermediate schools, 30 elementary schools, one early childhood/pre-kindergarten school, one high school of choice and two specialized campuses. High school students may also apply to attend the International Baccalaureate Diploma (IB) Programme or the International Business Academy (IBA) housed on two of the high school campuses.
Focused on academic success and character development and guided by the district strategic plan, Klein ISD’s outstanding teachers facilitate a daily rigorous curriculum that challenges students and addresses their needs. Programs and instructional strategies are broad and balanced in a wide array of courses, which focus on instruction in the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) as outlined in the Texas State Board of Education curriculum development guidelines. Teachers collaborate in professional learning communities to provide optimal instruction to meet the needs of all students.
Designing a balanced instructional program for Klein’s 50,000 students requires a team effort on the part of district personnel. The campus principal, teachers and the instructional staff are responsible for the curriculum, instruction and assessment across the district. Students in the district have access to advanced academics services, gifted and talented services, dual credit with Lone Star College/University Park, bilingual education, English as a second language programs, career and technical education courses, special education services and Title One benefits. The district also participates in the Texas Virtual School Network for online coursework.
Students enjoy a comprehensive program for technology implementation in the classrooms including a technology baseline standard initiative in each classroom and one to one computing at all high schools. Numerous career-training opportunities are available at the high school campuses, and offer diverse career clusters.
Each year hundreds of new families choose to live in Klein because they appreciate its exceptional staff, excellent facilities, outstanding academics, exceptional sports and fine arts programs, active volunteer programs and emphasis on student safety. With a commitment to excellence in academics and character education, the Klein ISD is a fully accredited public school district where fostering future ready students is essential.
